Where to Get Pit Beef in Baltimore

When well-nigh people think of Maryland, they recall of crab cakes and football. These words made famous in the hitting movie "Wedding Crashers" may be true, but a less-commonly known Maryland favorite is the pit beef sandwich, a Baltimore blue-collar tradition.

Pit beef originated in a working-class neighborhood on the east side of Baltimore decades ago and has spread like wildfire across the metropolis to its outskirts. But well-nigh venues stay true to the pit beef's apprehensive beginnings by operating out of shacks, huts, trucks, parking lots and, one time, a mechanic's garage. The ingredients are elementary, cheap and readily available.

The pit beef sandwich is not so much a culinary accomplishment as it is a way to experience something truly original to Baltimore and Maryland. Sitting at a picnic table outside a hole-in-the-wall pit beef hut in a location you probably wouldn't cartel leave your vehicle at nighttime while chowing downwardly on a juicy pit beef sandwich is an feel undeniably, allegorically Baltimore.

Jason and April Farrell opened the "Beefiness Stand," as it'due south lovingly nicknamed by their regulars, in 2002 after having great success with their Bay Area Catering Visitor.  The venue is a wonderful and eclectic roadside hole-in-the-wall, as is in accordance with Pit Beefiness Law!

CHAPS' pit beef is the superstar of Baltimore, and has been spotlighted on "Man vs. Food" and "Diners, Bulldoze-ins and Dives."
